Le’Veon Bell to Philly?
Le’Veon Bell to Philly?
With free agency speeding towards us, the rumors are beginning to heat up. Similarly to his soon-to-be former teammate Antonio Brown, All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell has taken to Twitter to find potential suitors. One user tweeted, “If the Eagles get Le’Veon [Bell], I will lose my (expletive).” It wasn’t in response to Le’Veon’s tweet inquiring about his next destination, so it was surprising to see the star player respond to it. He replied with, “hmmm” and the thinking emoji, causing several Eagles players and fans to swoop in and recruit. Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Long, and Lane Johnson all made attempts to get Bell to consider the Super Bowl LII champions.
There were also unconfirmed rumors stating that Philadelphia was indeed going to make a run at the 26-year-old. The Eagles are on the wrong side of zero in cap space, but if anyone can make this work, it’s Howie Roseman the wizard. Nick Foles is sure to be out and Timmy Jernigan could follow, opening up some space to fit in Bell. The Eagles still have a good offensive line but are in desperate need of a franchise RB. With Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood taking over as the lead backs over the course of the season, only four teams rushed for fewer yards than the Eagles. In last year’s Super Bowl season, they were top five in rushing offense. Jay Ajayi is the only back on the roster that could be seen as a franchise RB, but he hits free agency this spring and is coming off of a torn ACL, in addition to several other knee issues.
If the Eagles can sign Bell without sending themselves to cap hell and losing other good players, Philly should bounce back from a down offensive season in which they averaged under 23 PPG. The only question left to answer is whether or not he would become the most popular L. Bell in the city. Le’Veon or Liberty?
